Fine Mechanical "Exploding" Wooden Ship with Enemy Sub

A good friend of mine found an original set of this remarkable wooden toy set at a garage sale. It had a few parts missing and considerable paint loss. Being that he wouldn't sell it to me, I offered to restore the toy for him. since he refused to sell it, I took the opportunity to make a four copies, one for my grandson and a few to sell. Not being a carpenter, and of course thinking that any fool can make one of these, why not make four. Little did I realize the time fitting, cursing and crying involved. My wife assures me that restoring a real battleship and sub would have been easier. Anyways guys, here they are. The gunboat body is of ash, the balance of various woods (oak, birch). The submarine is of ash, while the torpedo mechanism if of brass and steel. A mousetrap (cleverly and painstakenly reassembled) provides the "explosion" and completely scatters all 10 pieces of the gun boat which are easily reassembled for the next encounter with the enemy sub. It also will fire a cap if placed on the iron nipple to add a bit of a bang to the gunship's demise. The sub has a brass tube with spring activated cocking/shooting device. Upon the submarine's torpedo striking the bullseye on the side of the gunboat, the mousetrap is triggered causing rapid disassembly. The gunboat measures 14 inches in length, the submarine 8 inches. This is a wonderful toy, suitable for display or play, worthy of reproduction.
