Old Snuff Cane with Ivory Spoon

I spent a few dollars here trying to find an ebony shaft to replace the original. It seems ebony of quality and free of splits is virtually impossible to obtain these days. The original shaft was split and unrepairable. I therefore obtained and had professionally turned a fine piece of walnut, which was subsequently stained jet black. The top depicts and owl sitting on an ivory spacer, the owl well carved from ebony. He has yellow glass eyes. The top (somewhat loose from wear) removes to reveal the snuff cavity. The cavity holds a tiny ivory spoon for scooping your snuff (or what have you). Minor wear to the highest points on the head, (ebony is extremely hard so wear is really negligible. A nice item. If the cane had it's original ebony shaft, I would have priced it at $750. The overall length is 35".
