Okame Netsuke
Porcelain netsuke are quite rare as they were easily broken. This wonderful antique netsuke represents "Okame" the Goddess of Mirth. She is always depicted as smiling, having two very fat cheeks and two spots on her forehead. The netsuke is signed on the bottom "Ninsei" as a token of respect for a famous artist of the 17th century. This example will be late 19th century. She stands almost 2 1/4" tall and is in excellent condition.
