Georgian Period Chemists Suppository Mold

A fine and probably English Georgian Period chemist's suppository mold. At one time the pharmacist actually manufactured the prescribed medicines for a doctor's patient. Here we offer a chemist's brass mold for producing suppositories for the treatment of hemmoroids. This fine example and the oldest I've encountered is a three piece mold capable of casting 12 suppositories at the same time. Once cast, these would have been individually wrapped and boxed ready for the patient to pick up. One of my favorite suppository recipes as used during this period comes from an antique medical book of the era...

"A cup full of hog's lard, put into a flat dish, then taking two bars of lead, rub the lard until it becomes black in colour. Then burn equal parts of tobacco and old shoe leather to a charred powder and mix into the lard. Form suppositories and administer once or twice daily as directed".

Me...I'll stick to "Preparation H" thank you very much!
