Huge Old Caltrop

I purchased this huge caltrop from a collector in England. It apparently was picked up on the Somme. I would have thought it much older, but he assured me they were used during WWI. It is constructed of 6 sharpened iron bars, each being 13 1/2" long. These are rivoted to each other and then each is bent at a slightly different angle to form a caltrop which sits 9 1/2" high and which unlike most caltrops will not only cause injury if stepped upon, but which will also cause injury to the ankle area if walked into. This is the nastiest caltrop I have ever seen. The caltrop is pitted from age, but the iron is stable and strong. A most interesting weapon of the great war.
