French Pinfire Alarm Gun
A very good example of a French 19th Century alarm gun. All iron construction, marked on the barrel, 7BD BENAIN / AU DEPART PARIS. The barrel swings sideways for breach loading. It is a 16 ga. pinfire. The overall length is 9 1/2". These were operated by trip wire, usually strung from a door or across a path. This, from a time when criminals had fewer rights than honest citizens!
