Clandestine Radio Receiver

During the occupation of Europe by the Nazis, all radios were forbidden.
Ingenious people hungry for outside information being provided by the BBC,
often made their own radio sets from whatever scraps of material were available.
This working re-creation uses a pencil lead and razor blade for a detector.
It operated like the old cat's whisker. A wire (75 feet or more) with glass
insulators on each end was strung up outside as high as possible for an antenna.
A ground wire was attached to an iron post in the ground completing the hook up.
The only real problem was finding a set of headphones, but these were
rarely turned in with their original radios, and were available.
The headphones are WWII vintage.
