Early Bowie Knife ca 1830-1850

A large handforged Bowie knife.
Overall length is 14 inches, the plade alone is 9" long, 2" wide.
The handle is of heavy black horn, possibly Bison.
The blade has typical minor folding flaws.
It is possible that the bolster is a replacement.
Please refer to Peterson's Gun's of the World article,
"Bowie Knives" by William R. Williamson (late 60's early 70's).
We have scanned a couple of pages from the article,
showing a Bowie by "Rezin Bowie" himself.
Though the scan is dark, please note the overwhelming similarities to this Bowie.
This Bowie, if not by Rezin himself, is by someone of the period who knew
and copied his work.
